Scott Weiland is apologizing to the fans "caught in the middle" of a legal dispute with his former Stone Temple Pilots bandmates.  The rocker issued the mea culpa this past Saturday during his concert in Philadelphia with his new backing band, the Wildabouts.

After the crowd started chanting "f*** you Chester" in reference to STP's current singer, Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington, Weiland thanked them for their support.  He also said he believes it will all work out in the end, and added that he's not really sure why Bennington chose to join a band that is "actually nameless."

Weiland is suing the Stone Temple Pilots for using that name without him.  The rest of the band, however, sued Weiland first for allegedly using the name to promote his solo career.  But Weiland told the Philly crowd on Saturday that all he really wants to do is play music.

He's scheduled to bring the latest leg of his Purple at the Core tour to a close this week with stops in South Carolina on Tuesday, Georgia on Wednesday, and Florida on Friday and Saturday.
