When Pink Floyd Saw The Dark Side Of The Moon Eclipse The Charts

On March 28 Pink Floyd went #1 with "Dark Side Of The Moon". The album went on to stay on the charts for 741 weeks before it finally fell out of the top 200.

Released March 1, 1973 the album became one of the biggest and most influential of all time. A concept album that focused on the pressures in the band during with their lifestyles, and the mental problems of former band member Syd Barrett, whose psychotic break lead to his leaving the group in 1968.

The group would use multitrack recording, tape loops, and Alan Parsons would engineer and use many sonic aspects of the recording the album in its revolutionary sound. The Dark Side of the Moon explores conflict, greed, time, death, and mental illness, and promoted with two huge singles, "Money" and "Us and Them".

The Dark Side of the Moon become the fourth biggest-selling album in US history, and one of the most critically acclaimed albums of all time, which brought Pink Floyd international fame. It's been is certified 14x platinum, as it sold over 45 million copies worldwide, making it the fourth-best-selling album in history.
